Computer Patch Alert!

by Ross

Normally Microsoft waits for its monthly scheduled release for a patch, however, it appears that they may not wait for its scheduled April Patch to fix an Internet Explorer 6 and 7 flaw that allows a hacker remote code execution.

In fact an Israeli security researcher pinpointed a site that had been using the problematic code, which infects computers by visiting a malicious website. The researcher also published a public exploit which brought the threat’s seriousness to a new and higher level. According to Jerry Bryant, a senior manager with the Microsoft Security Response Center, Microsoft is currently working very hard to “produce an update which is now in testing.”

However, the patch distribution is not guaranteed. Mainly due to the testing phase that it must go through. Bryant stated, “We never rule out the possibility of an out-of-band update. When the update is ready for broad distribution, we will make that decision based on customer needs.” (Source afterdawn.com)

Microsoft will release emergency patches very rarely, but in the company’s defense, they have done so if the situation warrants an immediate response that can be days or even weeks ahead of time.

If I have worked on your computer in the past, I have it scheduled that you can receive the updates, but only on your approval. So, please remember to keep a close eye out on your Microsoft updates for this Security patch. If the case is that you are unsure whether or not you have this update or if I have not done work on your computer please contact me at (623) 247-0290 so I can show you how to approve this update properly.
