Facebook Email Steals Passwords

by Ross

Facebook users are being targeted by hackers using tainted messages via Facebook’s own internet email system in an effort to steal banking passwords and gather other sensitive information. The new attack uses regular Internet email to send malicious software. The illicit campaign started Tuesday before last and were sent across Europe, the US and Asia.

According to McAfee, an email is received with the subject line “Facebook password reset confirmation customer support.” Whatever you do, don’t click the link. Doing so would cause you to fall victim to the latest password-stealing virus that has targeted over 400 million Facebook users.

Facebook did not comment, but pointed to a status update posted on its website warning users of the attack and advising users to delete the email and warn their friends of the bogus message.

Please, remember to keep your Avast and ZoneAlarm updated. If you feel uncomfortable with any email message or if you feel you are the victim of this type of attack, please contact me immediately at (623) 247-0290
